哈囉,歡迎來到我的部落格!許多學生問我是否有臉書。答案是我沒有,而且我也不喜歡Facebook!所以我製作了這個網站,要與大家分享我的興趣,以及我在台灣的生活。在這裡,我還會討論歌曲音樂、電影、字彙、文法、英文常犯錯誤與學習英語的小竅門。希望你們不僅覺得這網站很有趣,更能幫助你我,一起來創造一個好用的線上英語互動園地。

英澳口音特訓班 Homework 4

Dame Edna Everage is an Australian celebrity and comedienne. She has the kind of humour which is full of double meaning. She says nice things to people, but they can be interpreted as nasty, rude, or socially unacceptable. Dame Edna is the creation of an Australian comedian, Barry Humphries.

Listen to the first three minutes of the video. Can you hear this vocabulary?

Vocabulary:

  • possum =  a small fury animal found only in Australia. Dame Edna calls everyone 'possum'
  • you've aged = you've got older
  • a wicked old tease =  I am just teasing you
  • pulling your jambe = jambe means 'leg' in French. The idiom is 'pulling your leg', which means teasing you. Dame Edna is using jambe because the show is happening in Quebec, a French Canadian province.
  • fossil = an old rock in which the remains of an animal are preserved. 'Fossil' is also an impolite name for an old person
  • that was uncalled for =  a way of apologising after you say something rude
