TOEFL Speaking Tips Task 3

In task 3 make sure you talk about the reading first. The purpose of task 3 is 'Fit and Explain' so you must fit the reading and the conversation together.

Make sure you organise your response clearly. Complete the reading summary, then move on to the conversation summary. Some people like to begin like this:

"The reading is about the no smoking policy on campus, while the students express their views about it. In the reading we've learned that....."

This is not a very strategy, because you have to change from reading to listening back to reading and back to listening again. The organisation is not clear.

Here is a good example:

"The reading is about the no smoking policy on campus. The text mentions that XXX.... it goes on to mention that XXX..... It then says XXX. In the conversation the two students talk about the reading. The man says XXX...")

This is a better example because the reading and listening summaries are clearly organised into two sections.
