TOEFL Speaking Tips: Task 2

In task 2, try to avoid using the same language from task 1. For example, if in task 1 you said: "In my opinion,..." then in task 2, do not say it again. Say something else with the same meaning, like: "To my way of thinking,..." or  "As far as I'm concerned,..."

You must try to show the examiner you know how to use more language. If you use the same set-phrases all the time, the examiner will think you don't know enough language.

Learn three or four set-phrases with the same meaning, practice them again and again until you can use them smoothly and confidently in the test.

  1. Some people believe that the high school should teach music and art as other basic science. Some people think that providing music and art education for high school students is not necessary. What is your opinion and why?

To my way of thinking, it’s better to have music and art education for high school students. There are a number reasons why I think so. The first reason is that music and art could release the press and relax the mind. These let you appreciative and thankful about the world. Besides that, the second reason is that high school students should not only learn the skill but also build their appreciation of beauty. On top of that, music and art prevent you from being disappointed and depressed, which are always benefit for us.

  4. Hi, sir. I move to task2, too. :)

Some people think that it’s necessary to prohibit people from using phone calls in some places. Others believe that it’s inconvenient if phone calls are forbidden in some places. Which opinion do you prefer? Explain why. Your statement should include specific examples and details.

To my way of thinking, it's better to prohibit people from using phone calls in some places. There are several reasons why I think so. The first reason is that using cell phone could cause danger when taking an airplane or driving a car. Experts argue that befor landing and taking off, travelers are not allowed to use phone calls. According to the law, it's forbidden to answer phone calls while driving. The second reason is that it's really annoying and impolite when the phone rings in a lecture or during the movie. Even on a bus or on a train, the suddenly ringing noise could bother other passengers.
